In Eastern philosophy, our cosmic parents, the heavenly mother, and father are seen as equivalent to different genders, while in Christian thought, all divinity is masculine even though there is a discussion about whether or not, the Holy Ghost, is feminine or not. I Hebrew, the word used is feminine while in Greek, it is gender neutral.
In Hindu thought, the divine father, is seen as consciousness and intention. You could say that the masculine principle sets the tone, gives direction, and is the driving force behind anything that happens or is created. On the other hand, the feminine principle is the creation itself, and the intelligence that makes creation possible. The mother is always closer; the father is more distant, aloof, and abstract.
We as humans, need and can have both principles within us, or our lives lack something very essential. Because if you know what you want to do, you also need the skill. If you have the skill, and you do not know what to do, you get stuck.
