Pluto, known as the god of the underworld, returns to Capricorn from September 1st to November 19th, 2024. This will be the last time we, alive today, will experience Pluto in Capricorn, a sign linked to the Devil card in tarot—and rightfully so. Capricorn is known for its ambitious tendencies, which can sometimes be ruthless. As an earth sign ruled by Saturn, it emphasizes the accumulation of material wealth. Since Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, many of us have faced challenging times.

Now, as Pluto makes its final return to Capricorn before transitioning into Aquarius for the next two decades, it’s a moment to reflect on the lessons Pluto has sought to teach us. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, where the Moon is in exile, Mars is exalted, and Jupiter falls. This helps explain the connection to the Devil archetype. Saturn and Mars, both considered malefic, are strong in this sign, while the Moon and Jupiter, linked to safety, empathy, tolerance, freedom and luck, are weakened.

As Pluto, the god of the underworld, governs death and rebirth, this transit has been a time of transforming but also strenghening Saturnian structures, forcing us to rebuild a new reality. We have become aware of hard truths. While Pluto is often associated with dark forces like psychotic episodes, criminality, and political power abuse, it also has a higher purpose—facilitating radical transformation and healing of consciousness.

During Pluto’s time in Capricorn, we have all been confronted with our personal versions of hell. This collective and individual “hell” has become a tangible part of our reality, especially as Pluto moved through the final degrees of Capricorn, interacting with Saturn and Jupiter. Global events like the 2008 financial crash and the pandemic have exposed the fragility of our world.

As Pluto heads into Aquarius, a new era awaits, one of transformation of society where each and everyone has the opportunity to find their individual power. But before that, we have one last opportunity to reflect on the transformations Pluto in Capricorn has brought about, both personally and collectively.
